Everything guests and venues usually ask
If your question isn't listed, ask it via contact. A real person will respond, not a form confirmation.
Getting started
How does a guest start a game?
They scan the QR code on the table with their own phone, choose children or adults, choose a game, and play. No app, no account.
Does every game have its own QR code?
No. There's one code per table, and behind it are all the games you've enabled. A code per game would mean you'd have to replace cards every time the selection changes.
Do I need special equipment?
Not for the games; guests play on their own phone. Only for the order button do you need a PC with a receipt printer.
Does staff need to explain the games?
No. Every game explains itself on screen, and the guest starts on their own. Your staff won't notice anything except that tables stay longer.
How quickly can I go live?
Within an afternoon. Sign up, enter tables, download and print QR cards.
Games and tournaments
What's the difference between solo, together, and a venue tournament?
Playing solo means having your own score on your own phone. Playing together at the table is one game for the whole group. A venue tournament runs across the entire business: everyone who participates is on the same leaderboard.
Can children take part in games and tournaments?
Yes. When scanning, the guest chooses children or adults, and after that only games matching that choice appear.
Are new games added?
Yes, and they're added automatically. You don't have to do anything for it and pay nothing extra.
Can I choose which games are enabled myself?
Yes. Per business, you set which games guests get to see.
Service and printers
Can guests order food and drinks directly?
No, and that's a deliberate choice. The button is called 'I want to order' and calls staff to the table; what's ordered is heard there. A guest who submits their entire order no longer talks to your staff.
What is the TablePlay Bridge?
Windows software that runs on a PC in the venue and sends the call from a table to your receipt printer. That's all it does.
Does the Bridge work with local printers?
Yes, via USB. The printer you already have connected at the register usually works fine; Bridge finds it as soon as it's turned on, and you print a test receipt before a guest is seated at the table.
Does the Bridge work with IP printers?
Yes, via a fixed IP address on your network. You can connect several and set per printer which receipts go there.
Doubts beforehand
Won't my guests be on their phones all evening then?
That's the question we get most often, and the answer lies in the length. A round takes two to five minutes and is meant for the gap between ordering and serving. Table-versus-table and playing together on one phone are specifically made to get guests talking to each other instead of each scrolling on their own.
Does it create extra work for my staff?
No. There's nothing to prepare, hand out, or clean up. The QR code is on the table and the guest does the rest. Your staff only notices it when a guest orders an extra drink through the game.
What if my wifi is bad?
Guests play on their own mobile connection; your wifi isn't needed. The games are built to be lightweight, precisely because a basement or a terrace rarely has good reception.
Can I turn it off when it's busy?
Yes. In the customer portal you can turn games on or off individually, and this takes effect immediately on all tables. You can also decide per game whether it suits your venue.
What happens to my guests' data?
Guests don't have an account and only enter a nickname. We don't store names, email addresses, or phone numbers of your guests. What we do store and why is explained in the privacy statement.
Reviews
How does the internal review feature work?
Afterwards, a guest can leave their email address and receives one invitation. Their response comes to you, not to a public platform.
Can I offer a treat for internal feedback?
You can, but the treat is deliberately kept separate from the score. Buying feedback gets you feedback you learn nothing from.
Are only satisfied guests sent to Google?
No. Those who are satisfied are asked if they also want to share it publicly; that's voluntary and it never happens automatically. Steering who is and isn't allowed to leave a review is against the rules of every platform.
Can I show internal reviews on my website?
Yes, with a widget. You decide what becomes visible; an incoming review doesn't automatically appear on it.
QR codes and table signs
Do I receive physical QR signs?
No. You download them as a PDF in A5 or A6 and print them yourself. Holders and printing aren't included: every venue has different tables.
Can I create table signs in my own house style?
With Start and Professional, you choose a preselected design with your own logo. With Complete and Holiday Parks, you supply a fully custom sign design.
What if a sign gets damaged?
Print it again. The code stays the same and remains valid.
Scoreboard and custom quizzes
How does the TV scoreboard work?
It runs in a browser on any screen with a connection and shows today's, this week's, and this month's rankings. You don't need any extra device for it.
Do children appear on the TV scoreboard?
Never. Their scores don't count for the public board, not even in demos or screenshots. This isn't a setting you can turn on.
Can I create my own quiz?
Yes, with Complete and Holiday Parks. Your own questions, your own evening, and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
How does staff know who won?
At the end of a tournament, a winner's receipt prints out, if you've connected Bridge. Otherwise it's shown on the scoreboard.
Privacy and children
Does TablePlay contain advertisements?
No, from no one. Not even from TablePlay itself: if a guest shares their score, that image shows your venue's name, not ours.
What happens to a guest's email address?
It's only used for the review invitation they requested themselves. No newsletter, no resale.
Where is the data stored?
Within the European Union. There's a data processing agreement, and it's included with the subscription.
Are guests tracked?
No. There's no advertising tracking and nothing is shared with advertisers.
Multiple locations
Can I manage multiple locations?
Yes, with Complete and Holiday Parks. You invite locations, each manager gets their own dashboard, and you keep the central overview.
Can a manager see the figures of other venues?
No. Those remain with the central overview.
When does a location fall under Holiday Parks?
As soon as there are multiple guest areas within one park or resort and play happens all day long. The difference with Complete isn't the number of tables - both are unlimited - but the scale and the zones.
Why do holiday parks pay more for TablePlay?
Holiday parks generally use TablePlay much more intensively than a restaurant or hotel. A holiday park is active almost 24 hours a day, often has multiple hospitality locations, and can deploy TablePlay not only in restaurants, cafés, and terraces, but also via QR codes in the rental accommodations. As a result, many more guests can play simultaneously during a much larger part of the day, resulting in significantly more game traffic, sessions, and load on our servers than at a regular hospitality location. To reliably deliver that extra capacity, availability, and scale, a separate rate applies to holiday parks.
Packages and payment
How does the founder year work?
The first hundred venues per country play free for twelve months, without payment details and without automatic renewal. Around month eleven, you receive an invoice for the first paid month; by paying, you choose to continue.
What happens after the free year?
You'll be notified well in advance. If you want to continue, your package's monthly fee starts. If you want to stop, you cancel and it simply stops. There's no automatic renewal.
How does the regular trial period work after the founder phase?
If the founder spots in your country have been filled, you start with thirty days free. Upon registration, an invoice for the first paid month is created, which you pay within those thirty days or set up via automatic direct debit.
Are there start-up costs?
No. No connection fees, no installation fees, and no costs for the QR signs; you print those yourself. You only pay your package's monthly fee.
Can I cancel monthly?
Yes. You cancel in the portal and pay until the end of the current month.
Do I pay per location?
Yes. Each location has its own subscription, tailored to the number of tables there.
